"In the spring of 1996, the founders of Education World recognized the need for a Web site that would make the Internet easier for educators to use. They wanted to create a home for educators on the Internet, a place where teachers could gather and share ideas. They wanted to create a complete online resource where educators could start each day to find the lesson plans and research materials they were looking for.

The result is Education World, "the Educator's Best Friend," a resource that includes:

-a search engine for educational Web sites only, a place where educators can find information without searching the entire Internet;
-original content, including lesson plans, practical information for educators, information on how to integrate technology in the classroom, and articles written by education experts;
-site reviews;
-daily features and columns;
-teacher and principal profiles;
-Wire Side Chats with the important names in education;
-employment listings.

Education World's goal is to make it easy for educators to integrate the Internet into the classroom. With 98 percent of the nation's public schools connected to the Internet, the need for a complete online educational guide is evident. Education World is designed to be that resource for educators.

The Education World team works hard to produce this FREE resource for educators. In order to keep the site free for all visitors, Education World is funded by corporate sponsors and advertisers. If you are a potential sponsor, please contact sales@educationworld.com for more information." ... more

Thinking Maps logo
Our Mission
"Thinking Maps, Inc. is committed to improving the quality of teaching and learning through the effective implementation of Thinking Maps in schools and school districts around the world. Through quality training, materials and support services, we will equip learning communities with the tools necessary to become successful thinkers, problem solvers, decision makers, and ultimately, lifelong learners.

What are Thinking Maps & How Do They Work?
Thinking Maps, developed by Dr. David Hyerle, are visual teaching tools that foster and encourage lifelong learning. They are based on a simple yet profound insight: The one common instructional thread that binds together all teachers, from pre-kindergarten through postgraduate, is that they all teach the same thought processes.

Based on thorough and well-accepted academic study and brain research, the eight Thinking Map tools correspond with eight fundamental thinking processes. More than simple task-specific graphic organizers, our tools can be utilized individually or in various combinations to form a Common Visual Language for students and teachers at all grade levels, in all subjects." ... more

AIMS logo
AIMS image"AIMS is a non-profit foundation dedicated to helping teachers give students a solid conceptual understanding of math and science

In 1981, 80 elementary and middle school teachers who shared the dream of giving students a strong hands-on foundation in math and science came together at Fresno Pacific and wrote the first AIMS’ activity books. Teachers loved them! Students learned more, learned in greater depth, and enjoyed learning. The word spread, and soon teachers across the nation were using AIMS to engage their students in hands-on learning.

Today, with pacing guides to follow and testing schedules to meet, teachers have less freedom to take advantage of teachable moments. Yet hands-on experiences are needed more than ever! So AIMS remains dedicated to producing math and science materials that will engage students and build conceptual understanding.

As a non-profit foundation, we are motivated by a passion for teaching and learning, not by profit. Our home is still on the campus of Fresno Pacific University. We are committed to doing what’s best for students, and we never tire of helping them experience the joy of learning." ... more

"Starting an AMS-Affiliated Teacher Education Program
Do you operate—or want to create—a Montessori teacher education program (TEP)? Will you accept nothing short of excellence? Affiliate your program with the American Montessori Society!

Benefits of AMS Affiliation
The most immediate benefit to affiliation with AMS is worldwide recognition of the quality of your program: educators around the globe know that AMS-affiliated TEPs offer authentic, research-based, professional preparation for Montessori teachers at every level.

In addition to setting the highest standards for your own TEP, you can help raise standards for all Montessori educators by participating as a voting member of the AMS Teacher Education Committee.

AMS affiliate programs receive discounts on AMS publications and on materials and furniture from Nienhuis Montessori USA.

AMS Affiliation: A Voluntary Process
All TEPs that seek affiliation with AMS do so voluntarily and must also be accredited by the Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (MACTE). Programs should apply for MACTE accreditation and AMS affiliation simultaneously.

AMS TEP affiliation is available to the following:
- Freestanding institutions that exist solely for the purpose of offering Montessori teacher education
- Institutions that are part of other educational organizations (e.g., schools for children)
- Montessori TEPs within colleges or universities" ... more

"There is nothing more anxiety-producing to parents than thinking their child is falling behind in school and not knowing what to do about it. We know it because this company was founded and is run by parents who were concerned about their own children's ability to read. John Shanahan designed the original program to help his son. Chip Adams and his wife, Thayer, used that product with their son Doug. They liked the results but thought the product could be even better. TouchMath logo
TouchMath"You can use the TouchMath program to give young children a head start, supplement a grade-level curriculum (pre-K–3), provide enrichment activities and reinforcement, and achieve the best possible outcomes for students with special needs. TouchMath is an intuitive process, designed by and for young learners.

TouchPoints
The secret to TouchMath is simple. In fact, it can be summed up in one word: TouchPoints.
Each numeral from 1 through 9 has TouchPoints corresponding to the digit's value.

- Numerals 1 through 5 have single TouchPoints
- Numerals 6 through 9 have double TouchPoints
- As students count the TouchPoints, they associate numerals with real values. They learn that a numeral (3, for instance) is not just a squiggle on a page. It represents a quantity such as three apples, three ladybugs, three buttons or three TouchPoints.

Touching/Counting Patterns
Students count aloud as they touch the single TouchPoints once and double TouchPoints twice. This multisensory approach engages students on auditory, visual and tactile/kinesthetic levels.

To ensure that students arrive at the right answer, it is important that they touch the TouchPoints in the correct Touching/Counting Pattern for each numeral." ... more

THE ANGELICUM ACADEMY
The Angelicum AcademyThe Angelicum Academy"THE ANGELICUM ACADEMY HOMESCHOOL PROGRAM is a nursery-12th grade curriculum for home education. It is complete – including all subjects, books, guides and tests needed, for all grades. Optional services for enrolled students include grading, transcript maintenance, online literature discussion classes and the finest online resources (such as Encyclopaedia Britannica for students). Our Great Books Program may be taken for high school, college credit, or both.

THE ANGELICUM ACADEMY & HOMESCHOOL PROGRAM is easy to follow. Because it is complete, it is a one-stop home education provider. The 12 courses (subjects) allow parents to offer their children more options than any private school offers. Because it is flexible it allows parents to select only those courses they wish, when they wish, and to take as long (or as little) as they wish to complete a course. Most of our students are doing six or seven subjects, in two or three different grade levels – they have excelled in some, taken more time in others – this is a common sense approach to education, not a one-pace-fits-all approach to unique human beings.

We offer many courses. This is because some parents want to emphasize, for example, art instead of music, or science instead of philosophy, etc. That is a parental decision. But we do not recommend that any student take more than six or seven subjects at any one time. If one compares costs for any six of our courses with other homeschool programs, one will find that the Angelicum Homeschool Program is either less expensive or comparable in cost, and, we believe, superior in content and quality. We strive to offer only the very best educational books and materials, including particularly, the great classics of Western civilization." ... more

The Center for Innovation in Education"The Center for Innovation in Education is the leading provider of mathematics inservice and training in the country. Our workshops are open to teachers, administrators, paraprofessionals, and parents. Over 300,000 people have participated in our workshops.

The Center for Innovation in Education, a nonprofit organization, was co-founded in 1975 by two classroom teachers, Mary and Bob Baratta-Lorton. They shared a philosophy based upon the belief that all children can learn and that every child matters. Their commitment was to find ways that helped teach the way children learn.

A page of abstract symbols, no matter how carefully designed or simplified, cannot involve the student's sense in the way real materials can. Symbols are not the concept. They are only a representation of the concept and as such are abstractions describing something which is not visible to the student. Real materials can be used by the child to assist their understanding of the concept which lie behind the symbols. Children construct meaning and understand concepts better through the use of manipulatives." ... more

Why Love 2 Learn
Love 2 Learn logo"The editor and review board of Favorite Resources for Catholic Homeschoolers are experienced Catholic homeschoolers who wish to provide assistance to other parents and teachers by offering:

- free and well-organized information about available educational resources
- detailed information regarding a book's contents in order to help others make more informed purchasing decisions
- information about issues of importance to Catholics as they come up in educational materials

Our aim is to provide objective and thorough information about educational materials from a solid Catholic perspective. Rather than simply judging materials for you, we try to provide enough information to allow you to make those decisions for yourself - particularly in cases where materials provide no problems with regard to the Faith, but will bring up other questions involving learning styles, maturity level, and other issues that matter to parents like you. For this reason, when reviewing books, we try to include details about everything that Catholic parents would want to know - both good and bad. "
